The holiday resort of Sassari lies on the north western coast of the holiday island of Sardinia and overlooks Porto Torres. Although this reosrt is the largest on Sardinia it loses nothing of the old world charm that you would expect to find here. The "old" area is located in centre of the town and is largely based around the old cathedral. Outwith of this older area the remainder of the town is composed of relatively recently constructed buildings. There is a modern train system that seemlessly blends into the ancient surroundings and ensures cheap and quick transportation around the town and to the other areas of Sardina. There are numerous unspoilt sand beaches for you to enjoy. The most popular being La Pelosa, Le Bombarde, Rena Majori della Nurra and MugoniBeach. The island of Sardinia is very popular with people taking a vacation for a number of different reasons. Many people from the UK and Ireland choose to take a vacation here due to the very short flight time involved. Many large airlines fly direct to the main international airport Alghero from a large number of UK and Irish international airports. The flight takes around two and half hours. The island nature of Sardinia is very appealing too as it really is a destination that enables you to forget the stresses and strains of back home.
Finally, the beaches and sea here are wonderful. The beaches are composed of fine white sand and the surrounding seas are crystal clear. This destination is very popular with scuba divers and water sports enthusiasts.
