Coast/Beach A five minute stroll will take you to Kalamar Beach Club where there are sun beds, a restaurant, internet access, and a variety of water sports available. In Kalkan there is
a small, pretty pebble beach with sun beds and umbrellas. There are a wide variety of restaurants close to the beach for a relaxing lunch. Kaputas beach (sandy) is a 10 minute drive/taxi ride away and Patara Beach (12 miles of sand!) with its own archaeological site, is just a 20minute drive. A wonderful picnic spot.
Travel & Distances Dalaman airport, the nearest, is about 1.5 hours drive away. There are plenty of charter flights available and the airport is now open all year round. Given notice, we can arrange transfers. It’s not essential to hire a car. Local transport is good, with taxis and buses (Dolmus) easily available and cheap. However, there are no shops in Kalamar and with the private parking spaces available, a car would give you complete freedom to explore the region as and when you want.
Kalkan is about 1.5km away. It takes 5 minutes by taxi or a 20-25 minute walk. The drive to Kas, the neighbouring village, takes about 25 minutes along a beautiful coastline. There is a market there on Fridays and one in Fethiye on Tuesdays (approx 1 hour drive). Apart from the many historical sites, there are innumerable places to visit – local villages, beaches, mountain walks, local trout farms with restaurants (10 minute drive) and much more, all close to Kalkan.
Further details Kalkan started life as a small fishing village. The word means “turbot”! It has managed to combine a traditional feel, with narrow streets, white-washed houses, and an abundance of colour, with all the necessary amenities. It has supermarkets (most offer a delivery service), a post office, banks with ATM machines, a medical centre, chemists, dentist, internet cafes, together with a wide assortment of shops selling everything from Turkish rugs, traditional clothes, jewellery, souvenirs etc, to modern boutiques and leather shops. There is a market every Thursday which is well worth a visit. It sells all sorts of local produce, teas, spices, pottery and even ‘designer’ clothes and watches (perhaps of dubious origin!).
One of the most enjoyable things to do is to charter one of the boats in the harbour and enjoy a day cruising round the bay, swimming off the boat and sampling a delicious lunch on board.
If you are not hiring a car, local agents can arrange trips to the many archaeological sites including Kekova, Saklikent Gorge, Xanthos, Letoon, and many more, all close to Kalkan.
Perhaps Kalkan is most famous for its restaurants; from the simple to the sophisticated. You could dine out every night and not go to the same restaurant twice. It caters for all tastes from traditional Turkish, to International cuisine; many restaurants with roof terraces overlooking Kalkan bay. The village really comes into its own at night and for those who enjoy a night life, there are many bars and discos. Nearly all establishments have English speaking staff.
Why is Lupain Holiday Rentals the only holiday rental company to verify the ownership of holiday accommodation? Research has shown that not all advertisers are genuine. There have been cases where people have booked holiday accommodation only to find out it does not exist.
This sort of ‘scam’ is hard to comprehend but these days fraudsters are coming up with ever more imaginative ways of obtaining money by deception from innocent people like you. We do not want holidaymakers who book with us to fall victim to this type of scheme. Money is mostly hard earned we know, so taking a holiday is usually a major expense. In addition, we do not want you to remember us for a shattered dream.
Therefore, in order to protect you we have introduced our Owner Verification Scheme. We ask all holiday home advertisers to submit proof that they own the property they are advertising. Only when we are satisfied that an advertiser and their property is genuine do we add our Green Shield to their property advert. Apart from being a deterrent, it also encourages advertisers to make sure they verify their property, giving you peace of mind when you make your booking.
If you want to make a booking look for the Green Shield on the top right of the property advert, if you do not see our Green Shield it may mean we have not yet completed the verification process. We normally complete this process within a few days if no verification is forthcoming the advert is removed.
We take this Owner Verification Scheme very seriously for your protection. If you have any doubts about the validity of an advert or misrepresentation please contact us with your concerns.
Please note, Lupain Holiday Rentals does not verify the advertisement content placed on this website by property owners, nor do we offer any guarantee as to the correctness of the advertising information placed on this website by third parties.
