For our first visit to Madeira we couldn´t have chosen a better place to stay - buses on the doorstep, Funchalcenter so close for the down walk, and such restful surroundings for the energetic walks to return to or for a relaxing get away from it all break.
the comings and goings of the cruise ships in port provided a focus for some beautiful evenings on the balcony waiting for the sun to go down.
The apartment is very close , comfortable and private with everything you could need, and the gardens of course , are trully amazing.
One in all Quinta Esperança lived up to everything you promises and so much more.
Thank you both, Helena and Roberto, for your kindness, hospitality and help. May your redevelopment of this historic building produce the rewards it richly deserves.
We wish you every future sucess and see you again.
All the best,
Shirley and Tony.

On our arrival Helena was most helpful in arranging car hire for us.
A lovely touch was the snack provided on our arrival.
The apartment is very lvely and well equipped. The grounds and the main house are lovely and full of plants and fruit trees.
We spoke to Helena about the history of the house and how it came to be owned by Roberto´s family. Also about the plans they have for it in the future...
We have enjoyed our stay at the apartment very much and would certainly recommend it to anyone else visiting Madeira.

The Quinta Esperança is probably the most tranquiel place I have ever visited. We loved the gardens, the birds, the views.. ...
Funchal is very fortunate that this wonderful place came into the hands
of people with such respect for tradition and aesthetic considerations, rather than purely making money.
We look forward to returning, to see how you progress in taking this lovely place back to its former glory.
Many times I have set on the terrace and wondered what poets, artists, musicians, etc, of the past came and went.
The list would probably be more interesting than in Reids.
Much love Helena and Roberto
from your new friends,
Neil and Denise.

I am not used to write comments on hotels. But sometimes there are exceptions... Indeed our holidays here were perfect. We were surprised of the beauty of the Quinta, because it was better than the pictures :very quiet place, nice view, traditional Quinta, bigg swimming pool... Excellent choice. It is difficult to do better.
Thank you so much to Helena and Roberto.

We have had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at "Quinta Esperança". It was a very quaint apartment with spetacular views.
We especially enjoyed the mangoes from the trees and Roberto´s kindness taking us down to the marina to see the queens Elizabeth ship in the dock - thank you!!
we regularly sat up on the balcony to enjoy the sunsets with a glass of wine.
Thank you both for making us very welcome in your apartment.
We are sad to be going home!
You never know if we come this way again, we will certainly come to "Quinta Esperança".

Thank you for a very comfortable stay. I have visited many countries and stayed in many places over the past 40 years, and Madeira is still one of my favourities, 35 years after I first came here. Now, that I know about Quinta Esperança, I plan to come again soon!
The little apartment is very clean and well equipped, and the garden and the view are both lovely. It is such an historic building and I wish Helena and Roberto the very best with their efforts to make it 'home' to happy visitors once again.
Finally, you made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived, and the gift of the mangoes from the Quinta´s garden is unique in my experience.

My husband and I (age 27 and 28 years) stayed in 'Magnolia' for 1 week. We loved the peace and quiet, and the way we felt right at home. Unfortunately the weather was dreadful, so we didn't get to enjoy the pool and gardens much, but we loved sitting up on the terrace in the evening before going out for dinner, enjoying a glass of madeira or wine and watching the cruise ships leave port. The apartment was well equipped with everything you need for cooking, and you can get groceries in the town (and get fit walking them up the hill after!) The villa is quite far up a steep hill, but we walked back home every night with no problem, aside from once when a taxi was too tempting after a bottle of wine! (and it was only 5euros). We could park our hire car just outside, which was very convenient. I must say a big thank you to Helena, who drove to find me in another part of the island after our flight got cancelled to return an important textbook to me. It was above and beyond the normal level of service, and exemplified how generous the hosts are (even providing some much needed bread and cheese on arrival as we were starving!) I would recommend this to travellers who like peace and quiet, but if you're after some excitement, it's only a 15minute walk down the road. If we were going to Funchal again, we would definitely stay with Helena and Roberto, although we would probably go earlier in the summer/autumn!

We stayed for 5 nights in Feb 2011. We were given a warm welcome by the owner (Helena) who we found to be absolutely fantastic. The appartments were clean, immaculately maintained and met all our needs. The patio offers good views but the views over Funchal from the top floor balcony were stunning, it was a great place to relax.
the appartments location was very good, only 10 mins walk into Funchal (although a little longer return due to the hills), this need not be an issue as the appartments are right next to a bus stop and taxis from the heart of Funchal cost less than 5 euros.
We had a fantastic break and found the whole experience to be superb, Helena and her husband are passionate about this place and it shows in the apartments, gardens and their desire to make your stay a good one and for us It certainly was so a big thank-you

Where in the world could you find such a wonderful place having such a large house, large garden and swimming pool, all to ourselves together with the privacy , peace and views , such as Quinta Esperança???
Thank you both so much for giving us such a warm welcome and providing those little things on the table and on the fridge to start us on our way.
It was so good of you Helena , to give us all the details of your proposed enjoying development there; it all sounds very exciting and we hope that some of our suggestions may be useful. Please let us know if ever you would like any of our views in any of your plans.
With all this work, we offer you our very best wishes.
In conclusion, we both give you our thankful thanks for all the friendship that you extended to us which was the icing on the cake of a wonderful holiday.

Quinta Esperanca is a beautiful old house, which used to be a hotel (many years ago!). Two apartments are currently operational and Helena has grand plans for the rest of the house. The apartment we had was on the ground floor. It is very clean, compact and has everything you would expect for a week away. Helena has thoughtfully renovated and decorated the apartments - they really are very beautifully furnished and include good quality linen, towels and bathrobes. Helena and Roberto are on hand should you need them.
The property is situated close to the Old Town of Santa Maria, where you can find good restaurants. The prom, marina and hotel area is a little further away, but to be honest we didn't want to hang around the very busy touristy areas and found Santa Maria to be the nicest area for us. The pizza restaurant will deliver pizzas to the Quinta, which is handy if you don't want to cook in the evening or go out!
The hill approaching the Quinta is extremely steep - we didn't use buses, as we have an 18 month old baby, so we used taxi's. These were always about €5 from the old town and the taxi drivers got to know us by the end of the week!!
Helena kindly provided a cot and highchair, which was brilliant. However, due to the hills and cobbled pavements Funchal is hard work with a baby. Not entirely sure I would come back with a toddler (or, at least I would need to improve my fitness levels!). There is a lot to do for a week - the cable car, gardens and bus tours were plenty for us and we enjoyed a very pleasant week. Enjoy!

Verified Homeowner
Why is Lupain Holiday Rentals the only holiday rental company to verify the ownership of holiday accommodation? Research has shown that not all advertisers are genuine. There have been cases where people have booked holiday accommodation only to find out it does not exist.
This sort of ‘scam’ is hard to comprehend but these days fraudsters are coming up with ever more imaginative ways of obtaining money by deception from innocent people like you. We do not want holidaymakers who book with us to fall victim to this type of scheme. Money is mostly hard earned we know, so taking a holiday is usually a major expense. In addition, we do not want you to remember us for a shattered dream.
Therefore, in order to protect you we have introduced our Owner Verification Scheme. We ask all holiday home advertisers to submit proof that they own the property they are advertising. Only when we are satisfied that an advertiser and their property is genuine do we add our Green Shield to their property advert. Apart from being a deterrent, it also encourages advertisers to make sure they verify their property, giving you peace of mind when you make your booking.
If you want to make a booking look for the Green Shield on the top right of the property advert, if you do not see our Green Shield it may mean we have not yet completed the verification process. We normally complete this process within a few days if no verification is forthcoming the advert is removed.
We take this Owner Verification Scheme very seriously for your protection. If you have any doubts about the validity of an advert or misrepresentation please contact us with your concerns.
Please note, Lupain Holiday Rentals does not verify the advertisement content placed on this website by property owners, nor do we offer any guarantee as to the correctness of the advertising information placed on this website by third parties.
