This beautiful and pretty resort is located in the eastern part of France. It shares borders with Italy to the east and to the north across Lake Leman with Switzerland.
Although the area is famous as a ski resort the large Lake Leman provides a wonderful back drop for people taking a vacation to this traditional French alpine resort during the summer months.
Two large international airports provide simple and efficient access to the area.
You can choose to travel here by plane and fly direct to either Lyon or Geneva.
There are two further airports that may be accessed directly by certain UK and Irish international airports and these are located in Grenoble and Chambery which make getting to the resort slightly easier but using these airports is totally dependant on your departure airport, so check this out in advance.
The entire region only became part of France in the late 19th century. The local population do not really consider themselves to be French, but Savoyards or Savoisiens.
The town of Annecy is affectionately known as the “Venice of the Alpes” as a result of its location being at the head of one of the great lakes and that the town is crisscrossed by numerous streams that feed the lake. This part of the resort is very popular with hikers, climbers and skiers. The lake proves to be enough to keep the biggest of water sports fans occupied. Here you can enjoy sailing and canoeing, ot if all of this seems a bit too energetic, you can always relax with a drink and simply take in the amazing scenery and the major feature of the area, the magnificent Mont Blanc mountain range.
