Beautiful holiday home is a Comfortable Self-Catering property set amid spectacular scenery on the rugged north west coast of Donegal beside Sheephaven Bay and Portnablagh Harbour, 5 minutes walk to Dunfanaghy Golf Club and Killyhoey Blue Flag Beach. “Ideal for extended families or 2 families” or “Perfect for golfers/ groups enjoying the local fishing or horse riding facilities.”
Accommodation Summary : Portdale cottage is located just five minutes’ walk from the beach, on the outskirts of the town often referred to as one of Donegal's best kept secrets. Quiet and peaceful, yet only fifteen minutes from the larger town of Letterkenny, the house has easy access to all amenities, including the local shops, pubs and many excellent restaurants for eating out.
Four Bedroom Detached House is situated approx 200 metres from Dunfanaghy Village Centre, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay. The property has a side garden, perfect for the children and a rear decked area with a table and chairs to enable you to dine al fresco.
Area Details Dunfanaghy is located on Donegal's North West coast, specifically the west side of Sheephaven Bay. At the northern end of the village is a three-mile-long sandy beach known as Killahoey Strand. On May 2, 1943, a Flying Fortress of the USAAF on a ferry flight to Northern Ireland landed on the beach after running out of fuel. The crew were entertained in the local hotel and the aircraft refuelled and took off again (to be destroyed 6 weeks later over Germany).
South of Dunfanaghy are New Lake and Tramore Strand, a two-mile-long beach. New Lake was formerly a salt water marsh, but during the First World War, over-cutting of the grass on the surrounding sand dunes led to their destabilisation and the movement of the sand to block up the river. As a result, the marsh filled with fresh water and became a lake. The sand also silted up Dunfanaghy harbour. The New Lake became a haven for seabirds and is now a Special Protection Area. Also nearby is Sessiagh Lough, a small lough with a crannog in the middle.
Across the bay from Dunfanaghy is Horn Head, which shelters Dunfanaghy from the Atlantic Ocean and is an Irish Natural Heritage Area.
The centre of Dunfanaghy is a small square with a market house built in 1847 and a quay built in 1831 and formerly used to export corn. There are four churches: Clondehorky Old Church (now ruined), Dunfanaghy Presbyterian Church, Holy Cross (Roman Catholic) and Holy Trinity (Church of Ireland). The village is also home to a golf club, several art galleries and craft shops, and a museum, situated in part of a former workhouse, which describes the effects of the Irish Potato Famine on Dunfanaghy.

Why is Lupain Holiday Rentals the only holiday rental company to verify the ownership of holiday accommodation? Research has shown that not all advertisers are genuine. There have been cases where people have booked holiday accommodation only to find out it does not exist.
This sort of ‘scam’ is hard to comprehend but these days fraudsters are coming up with ever more imaginative ways of obtaining money by deception from innocent people like you. We do not want holidaymakers who book with us to fall victim to this type of scheme. Money is mostly hard earned we know, so taking a holiday is usually a major expense. In addition, we do not want you to remember us for a shattered dream.
Therefore, in order to protect you we have introduced our Owner Verification Scheme. We ask all holiday home advertisers to submit proof that they own the property they are advertising. Only when we are satisfied that an advertiser and their property is genuine do we add our Green Shield to their property advert. Apart from being a deterrent, it also encourages advertisers to make sure they verify their property, giving you peace of mind when you make your booking.
If you want to make a booking look for the Green Shield on the top right of the property advert, if you do not see our Green Shield it may mean we have not yet completed the verification process. We normally complete this process within a few days if no verification is forthcoming the advert is removed.
We take this Owner Verification Scheme very seriously for your protection. If you have any doubts about the validity of an advert or misrepresentation please contact us with your concerns.
Please note, Lupain Holiday Rentals does not verify the advertisement content placed on this website by property owners, nor do we offer any guarantee as to the correctness of the advertising information placed on this website by third parties.
