Upside down accommodation to maximise the stunning beams and views over magnificent countryside. Downstairs bedrooms and 2ft thick stone walls also ensure cool temperatures during the heat of summer. The barn has been converted in 2 halves with the owners living on one side. There is a shared foyer and utility room. The upstairs fully fitted kitchen is open plan. The pool shared with the owners is 12m. X 6m. and is totally private and enclosed with a 1m shallow end but a deep end of 2.5m. The property is situated 5 minutes by car from an excellent 9 hole British owned golf course. In the old pictureque village of Aubeterre, there is an ancient underground church and a beautiful river beach with swimming facilities. There is an arts of crafts market here every Sunday. The town is much favoured by artists. The nearby market town of Chalais has it's market day on Mondays, and is very popular. Within a short drive, there's a beautiful lake with childrens playground and picnic facilities.

Interesting local places to visit In the surrounding area there are many caves which have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Some have interesting painting although the largest cave Lescaux can only be seen in replica as it has now been closed to the public.
There are many castles in the area worth a visit and a trip to Brantone can provide a lovely riverside picnic and also a trip by boat. There is also canoeing on the river which can be quite exciting when you have to negotiate a weir.
In the picturesque town of Cognac you can see how cognac has been produced for many centuries and sample the fiery spirit.
Markets, bars and restaurants The local town of Chalais which is 15mins away by car has it's market day on Mondays. There are a couple of bars and quite a few restaurants which are very well frequented. Also in Chalais is a really lovely restaurant located in the Chateau de Tallyrand. Booking for this restaurant are essential in the summer months.
Aubeterre - 6kms away has it's market on a Sunday morning, mostly devoted to arts and crafts. This town is extremely pictureque and really favoured by artists. There is a child's puppet theatre for children. Aubeterre has also many restaurants where you can sit in a leafy square and watch the world go by.
Other towns have their market days and you can visit a market on almost every day of the week, if you like.
The nearest supermarket is only 10 minutes way by car and is even open on Sunday mornings. There are several other supermarkets within a 20 minute radius.
Public transport The barn is very rural and a car is essential for transport, although there are many walks and cycle rides. We do have 2 adults and 2 chilrens's bicycles available to guest at no charge, although helmets etc. would have to be provided by anybody wishing to use the bikes.
